I recommend to install Mint first and then sort out your audio. There is a program 'Additional Drivers' in the menu Preferences. After installing Mint, this program can install the driver for you. Don't choose 'experimental driver', it does not support HDMI audio. It was actually under Administration, not preferences.

I was able to authenticate, download the driver, reboot, and it didn't work. I tried a few video websites, but no sound. Also, the audio icon in the system tray is greyed out. Anybody able to help? I do have the correct driver on my LM desktop now, but don't know how to install it.

In what format does the Beats Audio-driver come? Do you have a link to that driver are you sure it exists? Is it HP Envy M6 specific? That's what I'm wondering. Beats Audio doesn't say whether or not it's compatible with Linux. With "the" in "install the Beats Audio driver" you let me believe there is one.
